You spend roughly a third of your life with your face against a pillowcase. The fabric you choose has more effect than most people realise — and the difference between cotton and silk is mostly about one thing: friction.
Friction, hair and skin
Cotton has a relatively rough, absorbent surface. As you move through the night it tugs at hair (contributing to breakage, frizz and tangles) and creases the skin. Mulberry silk is far smoother, so hair glides instead of snagging, and skin is less likely to crease against it. Many people notice softer hair and a calmer complexion within a couple of weeks of switching.
Moisture
Cotton is highly absorbent — it draws moisture (and your night-time skincare) away from your skin and into the pillow. Silk absorbs far less, so your products and your skin's natural hydration largely stay where they belong.
Temperature
Quality silk is naturally temperature-regulating: cool against the skin in summer, warm in winter. That's part of why it feels so restful.
What to look for
Not all silk is equal. Look for 100% Grade 6A mulberry silk at 22 momme or higher — anything less, or a blend, won't deliver the same smoothness or longevity. Our pillowcases are exactly that, OEKO-TEX certified and made to last for years.
Silk isn't a miracle, and we won't pretend it is. But as a small, durable upgrade to something you use every single night, few things compare.
